Body Positivity is one of those phrases that is very cool to say and much harder to practice. In general, it’s the idea of taking an overall positive outlook towards your body, no matter how it looks. If you do choose to dress modestly it can be easy to forget that your body is still something to be celebrated.
The more you practice being kinder to your body, the more natural it will seem. Here are 4 easy things you can start doing today to make that happen:
- Change the voice in your head. What we tell ourselves becomes true in our heads. Your brain has no reason to think you’re lying so every time you say “I look so ugly” you are actually reinforcing the idea in your head. Instead, say kind things out loud. It doesn’t matter if you believe them at first, over time the thought of complimenting yourself will become more natural.
- Pick one thing you love about yourself, and focus on it. I don’t care what it is. It can be as simple as the color of your hair. Next time you’re feeling a bit down, go back to that thing. This will help keep you focused on positive attributes about yourself while still giving yourself the space to acknowledge your struggles.
- Buy things that fit you now. Don’t order the dress a size too small, you’re only setting yourself up for heartbreak. You’re also putting yourself in a stressful situation, and stress makes it even harder to lose weight.
- You deserve beautiful clothes now. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “I would love to buy myself a new dress but first I need to lose weight”. No, you don’t. You deserve to feel amazing at your current size. Don’t push off treating yourself for something that may or may not happen.
I hope these tips make it a little easier to start loving your current body.
