All About Bras, Part 1

I’m embarrassed to admit this, but before I started working on this series the only thing I knew about bras was that there is no better feeling than ripping them off at the end of a long day. So when I decided it was time to tackle the scaffolding that supports our clothes, I called in reinforcements.

Rechy Rosenthal is the owner of Myself Lingerie, which has shops in Boro Park, NY and Lakewood, NJ. She has been doing bra fittings since she opened her shop 8 years ago and is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to literally everything undergarment related. This is a two part series. In this section Rechy explains why fit is important and how to properly care for your bras. In part 2, she’ll address some common problems you may be experiencing with your bras and how to tackle them. I’m going to hand the reins over to Rechy now and I hope you learn as much from her as I did.

Hi Lovelies, Rechy here! I’m so glad to be talking about all things bras today, so let’s dive right in:

Did you know that 80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size?

There are a lot of misconceptions and theories when it comes to bras. One thing is certain: every woman should be wearing her proper bra size. Both for aesthetic and health reasons. So why is it that so many women are walking around not knowing or assuming they know their bra size? A huge factor in this mess is the lack of bra fitting boutiques. Women don’t have easy access to getting a proper fitting at a boutique they trust. So they assume that if they were once a 34B, always a 34B. They try their luck at department stores, closeout stores, and online shops where they just continue purchasing the size they assume they are.

Another common factor is that not all bras are equal. While it can have the same band and cup size, every style runs differently. An experienced bra fitter can assist in determining which style and size works best for every body type.

We carry over 85 bra styles in our shoppes precisely for this reason. Every body type needs a different type or shape of bra. We do believe that there is a bra for every woman 😊.

A proper-fitting bra is the foundation. It’ll not only make you feel so much better by offering amazing support and shape but it will make all your clothes fit to perfection! Take the time to go to a boutique and get yourself properly fitted,

Oh, and one more thing-A bra shouldn’t have an anniversary!

Most bras last between 8-10 months. After that, the lifespan is gone. It might appear to still be in good shape, but just as with a shoe, it starts losing its support and will no longer hold properly.
